Memorial Day Weekend Events in Los Angeles

Welcome in the summer season with these Memorial Day events in L.A., including street fairs, wine tastings and more.

Memorial Day weekend? Must mean summer. Even in a place that’s blessed with perpetually pleasant weather, the long weekend seems to signal a change of seasons with the sudden onset of outdoor movies and concerts. Whether you’re looking to spend some time on the beach or at a street fair, you’ll find plenty to do during the three-day weekend with these Memorial Day events in Los Angeles.

Fiesta Hermosa

Downtown Hermosa Beach, Hermosa Beach
May 28 2022-May 30 2022

Roam the stalls at this arts festival, sample the fine foods and listen to the music—and then take a dip in the nearby Pacific.

Topanga Days Country Fair

Topanga Community Club, Los Angeles
May 29 2022-May 30 2022

Tucked away in picturesque Topanga Canyon, this Memorial Day weekend festival has become a favorite local tradition. Bohemian residents of all ages as well as curious onlookers converge to celebrate music, food, arts and Mother Earth. Expect plenty of vegan food vendors and healing arts, plus live music, arts and crafts and a quirk parade on Monday morning.

MAINopoly: A Taste of Main Street

Various locations in L.A., Los Angeles
May 29 2022

For one day only, much of Main Street in Santa Monica will transform into an interactive Monopoly board game, allotting attendees “MAINopoly dollars” to be exchanged for food tastings across the street’s finest establishments. Trade a couple fake bucks for dishes from spots like Crudo e Nudo, Stella Barra, Jameson’s Pub and Sweet Rose Creamery, or add on a couple of drinks in the “Go to Jail” VIP lounge and beer garden. Dressing up is encouraged, so polish up that Monopology moncole.

JazzReggae Festival

Location T.B.A., Los Angeles
May 30 2022

After a short-lived stint in the early spring, UCLA’s impressively student-run fest has returned to its Memorial Day roots. Though the fest promises the same vibe—which, in the past, was definitely the most 4/20-friendly of the pre-summer festivals—its two days have been pruned down into one. Gone are the dedicated jam band and reggae days; instead you can expect a more streamlined show.

Vagrant 25 Years on the Street

FivePoint Amphitheatre, Irvine, CA
May 28 2022

The very emo Vagrant America Tour gets a revival two decades later with the label’s 25 year anniversary show, which features Dashboard Confessional, Alkaline Trio, Thrice, the Get Up Kids, the Anniversary and Hot Rod Circuit.

Lightning in a Bottle

Buena Vista Lake, Kern County, CA
May 25 2022-May 30 2022

Glass Animals, Chet Faker, Purity Ring top this music fest in Bakersfield. Sure, it’s still a bit of a trek, but where else can you find a sustainable, vegetarian festival dedicated to equal parts music, food, art, yoga and wellness? Expect to do some serious soul-searching during this six-day retreat, all while immersing yourself in everything from a speaker series at the Lucent Temple of Consciousness to the old timey Grand Artique trading post.

Star Wars Celebration

Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, CA
May 26 2022-May 29 2022

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, every series didn’t need its own fan expo… but we’ll make an exception for Star Wars. Over four days at the Anaheim Convention Center, attend panels and screenings about Star Wars movies and TV shows, all while participating in contests and stocking up on so. much. merch.

Pioneertown International Film Festival

The Heart of Pioneertown, Pioneertown, CA
May 27 2022-May 29 2022

Mosey your wagon on over to Pioneertown for this inaugural film fest staged on the 1940s-built Old West movie set. As you might expect, the lineup for the desert town event (53585 Mane St) leans heavily toward Westerns, with a mix of restored Paramount classics, anniversary screenings (An American Tail: Fievel Goes West), the Acid Westerns of Jack Nicholson and Monte Hellman, and premieres (The Last Manhunt), plus a performance from the Dandy Warhols and some podcast recordings.

Jazz at LACMA

Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Miracle Mile
Until June 24, 2022

One of L.A.’s best free live music offerings, Jazz at LACMA has featured legit legends over its three-decade run at the museum. The beloved program is back again for the season, and so too is its open seating and picnicking format (whereas last year you needed a reservation). You’ll find the series on Friday evenings in LACMA’s welcome plaza (just behind Urban Light) starting in April.

Hayao Miyazaki

Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Miracle Mile
Until June 5, 2022

“Hayao Miyazaki” features over 300 storyboards, concept images and backgrounds from the Japanese animator’s beloved films. Memorial Day weekend marks the last few days you have to see art from My Neighbor TotoroPrincess Mononoke and Spirited Away and more.

Pipilotti Rist: Big Heartedness, Be My Neighbor

The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, Little Tokyo
Until June 5, 2022

The Swiss video artist’s retrospective has turned the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA into a mesmerizing playground of surreal delights. Swing by during its final week.

Ahmanson Theatre, Downtown
Until May 29 2022

Anaïs Mitchell’s transporting musical makes a hit from a myth.
