Halloween Horror Nights
WHERE: Universal Studios, 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, CA
WHEN: Until October 31st
WHAT: Confront familiar foes at Universal Studios’ annual Halloween festivities, where big-budget scares meet iconic horror movie characters. You’ll be able to navigate multiple scare zones and mazes, including ones based on the Weeknd (yes, as in the “Blinding Lights” singer, Halloween, The Black Phone, Killer Klowns from Outer Space and the classic trio of the Wolf Man, Dracula and the Mummy. Also, the “Terror Tram” takeover of the studio tour will return with a Jordan Peele mash-up that features the Tethered doppelgängers from Us in the Jupiter’s Claim area from Nope.
Delusion
WHERE: Pomona, 2640 Pomona Blvd, Pomona, CA
WHEN: Until November 20th
WHAT: Its past installments have found attendees stealthing their way through a Victorian home and embarking on a Blade Runner-esque bounty hunt. And now this celebrated immersive horror theater event is returning to L.A. for an event at a 147-year-old mansion that tasks you with deprogramming a 1970s cult.
Cinespia Cemetery Screenings

WHEN: Until October 29th
WHAT: What could be a better fit for Halloween than spooky films screened in a cemetery? This October, Cinespia will be showing The Thing and Carrie at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. In addition, the serious will be hosting a gothic masquerade at the Los Angeles Theatre for a screening of Bram Stoker’s Dracula on Halloween weekend.
Los Angeles Haunted Hayride
WHERE: 4730 Crystal Springs Drive, Los Angeles, CA
WHEN: Until October 31st
WHAT: This haunted Griffith Park hayride once again returns to the mid-’80s fictitious town of Midnight Falls, which borrows a little bit of the road culture of Sons of Anarchy and the isolation of Twin Peaks. The Old Zoo tradition, which has been running for well over a decade now, centers on a relatively lengthy hayride, which runs on select nights from September 23 to October 31.
Rooftop Cinema Club

WHEN: Until October 31st
WHAT: The masters of alfresco rooftop movie viewing are awakening the spirits in ealry September with an initial slate of Halloween favorites at their El Segundo, Arts District and DTLA rooftops. The festive flicks continue to pick up as Halloween approaches, with plenty of chances to see Hocus Pocus, Get Out, Halloween, Coco and Beetlejuice, among others.
‘Frankenstein’ with Live Orchestra
WHERE: The Theater at Ace Hotel, 929 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, CA
WHEN: October 28th and 29th
WHAT: The LA Opera and the Theatre at Ace Hotel once again join forces for a chilling mash-up of live music and film. Hole up in the Ace’s gothic auditorium for a screening of the 1931 Boris Karloff classic, Frankenstein, complete with a live accompaniment from LA Opera Orchestra—the movie was actually released without a score, so composer Michael Shapiro has crafted an entirely fresh soundtrack. Stick around after the October 26 performance for the Ace’s “A Hitchcock Halloween,” a haunted costume party in the hotel theater’s cathedral-like lobby.
Danny Elfman

WHEN: October 28tb and 29th
WHAT: Danny Elfman returns to the Hollywood Bowl for yet another Halloween-season concert, but this time around it’s not for a Nightmare Before Christmas show (don’t worry, you’ll still hear songs from that). If you caught the composer’s Coachella set then you have some idea of what you’re getting yourself into: A high-energy, all-over-the-place, metal-meets-classical concert that includes songs from Oingo Boingo, Elfman’s solo career and his most famous film and TV compositions, including Batman, Edward Scissorhands and The Simpsons.
Street Food Cinema

WHAT: The park-hopping alfresco film series will be screening Halloween favorites almost every weekend in October, with Hocus Pocus in Manhattan Beach, Edward Scissorhands in Pasadena, Twilight in Culver City, Beetlejuice in Griffith Park, The Nightmare Before Christmas in the Pacific Palisades and Psycho in Chinatown. In addition, it’ll host spooky double screenings of A Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream at DTLA’s grand Million Dollar Theater.
