Get Spooked at Playa Vista + Marina Spooktaculars

Marina Spooktacular offers Halloween fun for the whole family on the Los Angeles waterfront. Enjoy free admission to this two-day festival in Burton Chace Park, Marina del Rey. Daytime activities are kid-friendly but when night falls, the park evolves into a field of frights with tours of L.A.’s only haunted pirate ships, recommended for brave souls age 13 and up.

Marina Spooktacular Events

ALL-DAY ATTRACTIONS
Enjoy face painting, carnival games, bounce houses, food vendors, a kids tractor ride, pumpkin carving and crafts, DJ music, and more all day. Ongoing tours of the pirate ships will be non-scary in the daytime but haunted at night and recommended for ages 13 and up.

CARVE LIKE A PRO
Get tips from a professional pumpkin carver on how to creatively decorate festive gourds. Pumpkins and carving kits will be provided for free.

PLAY LIKE A KID
Classic carnival games and kid-focused activities will be available all day. Challenge Dad to a ring toss-off. See who can beat Grandma at the balloon pop.

GET YOUR FACE PAINTED
Whether your style is a kitty cat or a spooky spider, stop by the face-painting station and get prepped for the day.

LEARN A CULTURAL DANCE
Presented in partnership with the Ford Theatre Foundation, participatory Dance JAMs teach the history and basic moves of various dance styles from around the world.

BALLET FOLKLORICO OLLIN – MEXICAN FOLK DANCE
Experience the culture of Mexico through the songs of Veracruz with Ballet Folklorico Ollin. In this participatory dance JAM presented by the Ford Theatre Foundation, participants stomp and step their way through the rhythms that come from this eastern Mexican state. The event ends with a fandango celebrating the entire community. Participants will perform on tarimas (wooden dance platforms) – so wear shoes you can make some noise in!

DANZA MEXICA CUAUHTEMOC – DANCES OF THE AZTEC PEOPLE

Experience the splendor of the Aztec people with San Fernando’s Danza Mexica Cuauhtemoc. In this participatory dance JAM presented by the Ford Theatre Foundation, participants create rhythms and beats with fellow drummers and explore the music, choreography, and poetry of this ancient Mesoamerican culture.

How to get a wristband

Admission is FREE, however, liability waivers are required for all attendees (all ages) who want to participate in any activity. Print out and complete your waiver at home for faster festival entry. You’ll need to deliver the waiver to the Department of Beaches & Harbors tent at the park entrance and exchange it for a wristband. Get a printable waiver by registering at Marina Spooktacular’s Eventbrite page.

LOCATION
Marina del Rey is located on the Los Angeles coast, 4 miles south of Santa Monica. From Interstate 405, connect to westbound Highway 90, which terminates in Marina del Rey. Make a left onto Mindanao Way and follow it to the end at Burton Chace Park. 13650 Mindanao Way.

THE FREE RIDE
The Free Ride provides complimentary on-demand transportation around the Marina daily from noon to 9 p.m. If you see one of the Free Ride cars, just wave down the driver and hop in. Or, text your pick-up location, destination, and passenger count in advance to 323-435-5000 (no calls, please). The usual 10-15 minute wait for your driver’s arrival may be longer at high-traffic events. Gratuity for your driver is appreciated but not required. Passengers must be able to use a standard vehicle seat belt.

BEACH SHUTTLE
The Beach Shuttle offers free transportation on weekends and holidays on a set loop between Playa Vista, Marina del Rey, and the Venice Pier.

UBER/LYFT
Call your rideshare driver to a location away from heavy traffic flow. We recommend finding a safe meeting place with a visible landmark, such as a gas station or restaurant and do not attempt pickups and drop-offs along the street. This event does not have a designated rideshare zone, but quick drop-offs/pickups are allowed at the park entrance (no waiting vehicles allowed).

Playa Vista Spooktacular

It’s that spooky time of year again. And Playa Vista is pulling out all the stops for this year’s Halloween festivities in Playa Vista!

Join in the fun on Wednesday, October 31st, and get ready for a day filled with all kinds of fun, starting at The Lawn. From 3:30pm to 6:30pm, enjoy everything from trick-or-treat bag decorating and music to giveaways and more.

Once you’ve gotten your fill, make your way across the street to Runway’s Halloween Spooktacular hosted by the Playa Vista Mom’s Group, taking place from 5pm to 8pm. Take part in the annual costume contest and get in a little more trick-or-treating during this fun evening.
